Depuis Spinoza, le développement de l’exégèse historico-critique amène à reconsidérer le rapport au texte biblique. Dans cet article, Axel Bühler met en lumière les limites des approches comme le concordisme, le rationalisme ou l’idée selon laquelle l’historicité ou l’ancienneté donnerait de la valeur à un texte. À l’inverse, approcher le texte uniquement comme un monde d’idées court le risque de le décontextualiser et de ne plus le comprendre. La dernière partie montre à partir de Josué 10,11-13 comment l’exégèse historico-critique contemporaine aborde un tel passage.

Is Bible a World of Ideas?
Since Spinoza, the development of the historical-critical method has led to a reconsideration of the the biblical text. The article highlights the limits of approaches such as concordism, rationalism, or the idea that historicity or antiquity gives value to a text. Conversely, considering the text solely as a world of ideas runs the risk of decontextualizing it and no longer understanding it. Based on Joshua 10:11-13, the last part shows how contemporary historical-critical method deals with such a passage.
